Research: Cataloging Tools and Standards

My colleagues have listed a ton of Web sites that they have found useful. I plan to actually study quite a few of their recommended sites. At this point many of them have already noted the more worthwhile sites. As a novice, and never having catalogued a resource myself, I feel it would be beneficial to study in depth many of the highlighted sites, rather than reinventing the wheel. This will take a while, so I will report back and post some useful sites from a beginner's perspective.
